Women aren’t allowed to be intense in the way Sinead was. They are allowed to be beautiful or mysterious or passionate or happy or sad and a million other things but never intense. Her kind of harsh intensity is celebrated in men but not women. Why?

Such a good point Rols. The simple answer is the patriarchal system is so deeply embedded in our communal psyche that female intensity is always considered confronting - or crazy or pathetic or laughable or even ‘complicated’ - because it breaks with what we are raised to expect from women.
