A beautiful tribute to the man. An old friend of mine Irene- Danny- Kalinski was his piano player for years on tour. She adored him. We've lost a legend but Loene you have honoured him royally.

Wonderful Loene! You totally captured Humphrie’s essence and the Australia that we love.

Great clip with Parkinson and Sir Les Lo. It’s so weird watching Barry Humphries in these times of cancel culture. He’s so cancellable. And indeed he was the subject of some hefty moralisation toward the end of his career (see Melbourne Comedy Festival and Hannah Gadsby etc) such a strange Australian cultural attaché or Dame wasn’t Whitlam brilliant for doing that etc. its a long and brilliant meditation on Australia of a particular time and period. Towards the end he seemed to be recycling a lot of his jokes but he was always amazingly sharp and witty off the cuff. The Australia he parodied and poked fun at is in some senses disappearing or already gone. But in other ways it’s still very much with us. There’s a sharp point to his jokes. The kind of barbarism Australians are capable of, the racism and the xenophobia are still very much in view. His comedy wonderfully showed a mirror to Australia. More than ever we need that kind of comedy now.
