I really enjoyed this read. It's easy to grab some songs about a topic, but this is a great story. You must have seen a lot of interesting people in the Cross. I love the Dylan lyric, a great example of why they call him the song poet.
Thanks James, appreciate it, it was in my accompanying playlist until I just realised it was the same song as 'Sweetheart' on the Maria Muldaur album so I went with her version.
I have been a waitress a few times and have mixed feelings around it but certainly there is a romanticism around waitresses. It seems to straddle glam and ordinary. Perhaps it’s the fact that most waitresses are ladies in waiting- always hankering after a dream or in between jobs. It’s a role that evokes transience. It’s made me want to write my own piece about waitresses! Thanks.
Thanks Susan - I was confused because i was sure I could remember her singing about being a waitress when i heard it twenty years ago but a quick scan through the songs to refresh my memory and I missed it - the song is called Sweetheart. Fixed it now.
Nice!
A good waitress can right a wrong day., for sure.

Very kind of you, thanks Luigi! Yes the Cross was definitely full of interesting people.
Waitress In A Donut Shop is a song written by Dan Hicks and Ken Burgan of The Lp Last Train To Hicksville...The Home Of Happy Feet. Give it a listen.

I love this!

Maria Maldaur DID have a song called Waitress In A Donut Shop. Didn't you listen to the album of that title?

Thank YOU! I just listened to Sweetheart again and really enjoyed it.
Not every waitress song is positive - Fountains of Wayne's superb Halley's Waitress describes an experience I've had as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=274CB0VL7_4
Another great read, Lo!
Check out The Prettiest Waitress in Memphis by Cory Branan.
Great lyrics Kane, thank you! x
I loved the mention of Warren Zevon. He was one of a kind.
