My father designed and built the Bird Hall at Auckland Museum, so I became reasonably acquainted with NZ natives, and had the pleasure of going on some birdwatching and counting trips with staff from the museum and Auckland university. As you know, they are far more intelligent and complex than we give them credit for. My favourite is the Tui which has two voice boxes, and can make different sounds at the same time. It is capable of singing over 300 different songs many of which have a meaning to other tui. We have many around our house and they come and listen when I play guitar.

The Tui sounds amazing - a bit like Tuvan throat singing. … I love that your guitar playing draws them in.
It makes it fun for me too. Most birds are curious, but I do wonder if songbirds are more curious, as they look for more sounds to imitate.
