Some great stories here, thanks, Lo. I was once motivated to write a song after playing a winter gig in a pub, where the stage was close to the door and every time it opened, a freezing wind would blow in. Nobody was there to be entertained. It felt like they were just there to get drunk with their mates. Sometimes you can win over those crowds and get them singing your original hooks with you, but this particular night I was just background noise and felt sorry for myself. I had to remind myself that they were not there to see me perform. :)
Oh yes Luigi, I have done plenty of those gigs too, where you feel like you're just an inconvenience to the punters. That's showbiz! I can almost feel that freezing wind you're describing....
'Ballad of Tindersticks' is incredible, those lyrics wow. So droll and perfectly capture it all, thanks Jack. And Lee's lyrics are so great of course, I heard this many years ago but had forgotten it. ... thanks for coming by to sit and watch me die....thanks for these brilliant recommendations Jack!
You're such a gorgeous songwriter - and song singer - Amy. I love Back From Amarillo! Even though I'm a big Tom T Hall I only recently heard 'Homecoming' via Phosphorescent's excellent cover: https://youtu.be/U9rO4Tz4YMk?si=BOxgHvJBI7tiOzKa. Thanks for the tour thoughts, I head off today, excited!
New here and do not know most of these songs but find it interesting to slow down and read the lyrics.
I love that Cheryl! ❤️

I love this, road songs are some of my faves. Have you ever heard Tom T Hall's Homecoming? A killer! https://youtu.be/lzm5llVmR2E?si=f7QDakBaOGLrKAOk
I tried a kind of oblique take myself: https://theamyrigby.bandcamp.com/track/back-from-amarillo
Hope you have a great tour with Kevin Morby!
